The Biotechnology Society of Tanzania (BST) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to promoting advancement and use of biotechnology in the country. The membership is open to scientists, researchers, academicians, farmers, consumers, manufactures, traders, policy and decision makers, industries, media, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community based organisations (CBOs) interested or involved in fostering, developing and supporting application of biotechnology tools and information in various sectors of the economy to enhance the living standards of people. The BST is registered as NGO under Section 12(2) of the Non-Governmental Organisations Act No. 24 of 2002 with registration No. 00NGO/0008784 with effect from 13th October 2016.

The BST aims to inspire its members and other stakeholders in pursue new creative ideas in science through communication and engagement.
The Society acts as the voice for scientists and other stakeholders in advancing science as we believe lives and livelihoods of people can be improved through science.
The BST team always observes the governing laws, rules and regulations in service delivery to its members and other stakeholder.
The BST enhances collaboration with other potential biotechnology stakeholders to increase efficiency and impact.
